Hi, this is Mubashir!

Documenting my thoughts on a variety of things.

Getting Gaps Between Windows in Linux Mint Similar to i3-gaps.

TL:DR: Add to or create the following file ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css headerbar { border: 10px solid rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.00); border-bottom-style: none; } decoration { border: 10px solid rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.00); background: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.00); } Some caveats: You will have to change the title bars to native implementations for applications with custom title bars e.g. Firefox, VS Code, Jetbrains IDEs etc. There is is still a thin border around the windows which I have not been able to turn transparent, although it does give me visual cue where to place my cursor to resize my windows. Making this post because I have been searching for a solution for this for quite some time, to the extent that yesterday I took it upon myself to create an extension to add this functionality for Cinnamon DE. The silver lining is that it is surprisingly simple (even for self-proclaimed non-tech people). ...

Obsidian Note Widgets (Desklets) on Linux Mint

TL;DR: Steps on how to set it up for Linux Mint Cinnamon Desktop Environment. Problem Statement In my most recent Obsidian obsession, I started looking for widgets - both mobile and desktop that display my notes, more specifically my DO and TODO lists. The journey has culminated into this post. My proposed solution, as the title suggests, is going to be for desktop, specifically the Linux Mint Cinnamon environment. Nevertheless, I did find some interesting applications for mobile devices in my Literature Review. ...

The Case for Dual Monitors by a Stubborn Developer

Like many developers, the main machine that I code on has always been a laptop. Previously, it was a 15.6" HP EliteBook 850 G8. Most recently it has been a 14" Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5. I am quite stubborn with introducing any additions to my workflow and setups for a number of reasons but it mainly boils down to the following mentality I have developed: Reducing the number of dependencies both software and hardware. ...
